Camping Salò: a gulf steeped in history

The town of Salò lies along the homonymous gulf and, thanks to its central and strategic position, it is considered a landmark.
The name of this city has origins that are still not very clear: in all probability it derives from the fact that in the past the city represented the economic capital where salt was stored, which was an invaluable resource art that time.

Salò has considerable historical importance: not only was it the capital during the Venetian domination, but also the seat of numerous ministries of the fascist government of the Italian Social Republic. If you walk through the historic center, in fact, you can see traces of the past of this city thanks to the many historic buildings.

Salò offers numerous attractions of great historical and cultural interest, such as the Clock Tower, located in Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II. It is a fortified structure dating back to 1200, inside which there is a large round clock.

The Municipal Palace is also worth a visit, an imposing building dating back to 1540 which, during the Republic of Venice, was considered the seat of the Magnifica Patria, while today it is the seat of the Town Hall of Salò. If you are interested, you can also visit it.
The Cathedral of Salò is the central monument of the city, it is dedicated to Santa Maria Annunziata and, although externally it gives the impression of being very simple since it has an incomplete facade, once you enter you realize how spectacular this church is, because there are some very important and priceless works.
The Porta di San Giovanni (today called Porta del Carmine), is an architectural structure in masonry that acts as a door and driveway and that in the past probably had both the function of marking the boundaries of the city and the function as customs.

To further enrich the offer of this locality, given the number of buildings and monuments that make it particularly elegant and elegant, there are also several possibilities to stay in Salò in glamping, in order to experience life in the open air without giving up comfort and luxury.

Salò is a place with interesting ideas and monuments for those who love to immerse themselves in an atmosphere rich in history and culture, but also for those who love to visit on foot, perhaps taking a regenerating walk along the lakefront, where there are twenty plaques, each of which reveals some curiosities about the history and origins of the city.
