Brenzone
Camping Brenzone: the happy shoreline
Brenzone, traditionally known as Magugnano, is composed of a number of neighbourhoods, some of them situated on the lake (Assenza, Porto, Magugnano, Meringa and Castelletto), others in the foothills of the mountains (Castello and Sommavilla), and others still right on Mount Baldo, such as Prada.
The municipality, which borders on Malcesine, Ferrara di Monte Baldo, San Zeno di Montagna and Torri del Benaco, stretches out over an area of about 50 km2, with an altitude that climbs up from the 69 m a.s.l. of the lake Garda to the 2200 m of Cima Telegrafo.
In Brenzone, tradition and history remain very much alive in the fishing villages and rural neighbourhoods, and in the restaurants and hostelries visitors can sample typical recipes in which the area’s olive oil brings out the flavourful best in the delicate fish caught in the lake and the distinctive, rich fragrance of the local dairy and mountain produce.
Brenzone is a young municipality and certainly a less crowded destination than many others on Lake Garda. Certainly chosen as a base for the more sporty, Brenzone offers the right balance of relaxation, movement and history. For the sports enthusiasts who want to take a break from everyday life and completely immerse themselves in their favourite activities, a weekend in Brenzone is the perfect choice.
Situated completely on the coast and at the foot of Monte Baldo, there are plenty of activities for those who are more active, like hiking in the midst of nature, water sports such as kitesurfing, sup, windsurfing, Nordic walking or the many bike tours. Holidays in Brenzone are also a good choice for the more adventurous cyclists, who can attempt the infamous Punta Veleno climb with its 1,000 metre difference in altitude along the 10 km stretch, which includes a 6 km section with an average gradient of 14.6 per cent. Choosing campsites near Brenzone is perfect if you are a sports enthusiast and perhaps have limited time available.
And for those seeking more peace and quiet? There are campsites in Brenzone for you too. In fact, this town offers numerous activities that don't require too much effort, such as summer concerts, a pleasant ride along the cycle path that connects the entire 9 km area, and the various small harbours where you can take a break and enjoy the sunset.
Especially worth mentioning is the "Acquafresca" sports centre in Assenza and the Sailing Club in Castelletto, which take advantage of the excellent sailing area the lake offers. In 2005, a cable car line was inaugurated in Prada, on Mount Baldo, offering unrivalled views, as well as being the departure point for a number of cycle lanes and trekking routes.
Another interesting sight is the island of Trimelone, which cannot be visited, but is clearly visible both from the land and by sailboat, sup, etc.
It is an island in front of Assenza, now a natural oasis, which was once a war outpost and warehouse, witnessing some of the major historical conflicts.
No less important are the small villages in Brenzone, such as Campo, an ancient uninhabited hamlet on the higher altitude, very picturesque and definitely worth a visit.
If you are looking for a place of peace or where you can do sport in complete tranquillity on Lake Garda, the campsites in Brenzone or its surroundings are the right choice. Here nature is the protagonist, which welcomes tourists from the typical lake vegetation to the alpine environment.
