All you need to go out sailing is wind and water, and there is no shortage of those on Lake Garda! There are beautiful waters to drift on, and two winds blow consistently throughout the day: the Péler in the morning, from north to south, and the Ora in the afternoon, from south to north.
This means conditions are perfect for sailing. Malcesine, Bardolino, Peschiera del Garda and Torri del Benaco offer the best areas for outings with a sailboat or catamaran.
Along the eastern shore, there are many sailing clubs and schools for those who want to learn a new sport or need boat storage. The sailing tradition of Lake Garda is over 50 years long, thanks to the areas ideal conditions and, consequently, because of frequent national and international sailing events.
Spurred on by environmentally responsible tourism, many sailing schools have been established, so that even beginners can experience new thrills and enjoy getting in touch with nature. With these courses it is also possible to obtain the international VDWS sailing and catamaran sailing instructor's license. The lesson packs include all necessary equipment. You will learn basic navigation and meteorology, use of the sails – and you can cast off, with a qualified teacher by your side.
If the southern part of Lake Garda, with its gentle winds, is ideal for beginners, the northern area (indicatively beyond Brenzone and Campione) with its constant winds is certainly more fun for those who already know how to go sailing and catamaran.
In the area of Lake Garda Trentino (Arco-Riva del Garda-Torbole) there are numerous specialized schools, clubs and boat rentals, all of a high standard. Experts and beginners can find all the necessary information and equipment, in order to make sailing trips unforgettable! The wind in this area is more intense so, if you are a true fan of this sport, it is the area that is right for you!
As for the Brescia side of Lake Garda, the two sailing clubs of Gargnano and Desenzano play an important role, as they have been organizing courses for both young people and adults for several years. During the summer season, various events are also organized and one of the best known is the Centomiglia which, starting from the town of Gargnano, runs throughout Lake Garda.
