A day trip on the waters of Lake Garda
Isola del Garda and the nearby smaller Isola di San Biagio, also known as Isola dei Conigli, are the perfect destination for a day trip on the gentle waters of Lake Garda.
Both can be reached in a few minutes by boat from different points on the western shore of the lake, the closest points are Manerba, San Felice del Benaco and Gardone Riviera, on board a private boat, or by participating in one of the many excursions organized during the warmer months.
Isola del Garda, owned by the historic Cavazza family, welcomes visitors from April to October on a visit that starts with a tasting of Garda DOP extra virgin olive oil , produced by the same family, and continues with the discovery of the rare treasures that this place keeps.
The island, which extends for about a kilometer in length and six hundred meters in width, boasts in its history the memory of illustrious guests and owners, and only between the end of the 1800s and the beginning of the new century did the architecture take shape of the majestic Villa and the famous Gardens, which today lead us to set sail towards this marvelous oasis of beauty bathed by the waters of the lake.
An extremely elegant building in Venetian neoclassical style stands on the highest point of a terraced system of Italian gardens, adorned with hedges shaped like sculptures, exotic plants and prickly pears, and overlooking a luxuriant orchard below, full of aromatic plants, multiform rose gardens, and fruit trees of the most disparate origins.
All around, and recently opened to visitors, extends the park characterized by a wilder nature, populated by an infinite variety of shrubs such as poplars, laurels, cedars, plane trees and firs... ideal for a regenerating walk among the colors and scents of the typical vegetation of this area.
The guided tour of Isola del Garda takes up an entire afternoon and usually ends with a panoramic aperitif on the elegant terrace of the Villa, and can also be booked just a few days in advance through the official website .
Once we have weighed anchor, we sail to discover the nearby Isola di San Biagio, also called Isola dei Conigli because it was once populated by hundreds and hundreds of these small animals.
This second jewel bathed by the gentle waves of the lake can be reached during the summer months in a few minutes by boat from Porto Torchio, in Manerba sul Garda, or with an amusing "walk on the water": in fact, in some periods of the year, especially towards the end of summer, the waters in this point of the lake withdraw, leaving a part of the seabed uncovered, which can be traversed on foot.
The walk is short and literally refreshing and, once you arrive at your destination, visitors will find green lawns ideal for sunbathing, a kiosk with toilets where you can rent deck chairs and umbrellas, all surrounded by the green waters of the lake, perfect for refreshing swims and scuba diving.
